Clean Your Air Conditioner!

AC-repairIf you are like everyone else, likely you have already put in your air conditioner in preparation for the months to come. Summer is here, and we all know how the Garden State can get when it comes to heat, humidity, and overall summer discomfort. It is very important to remember that your air conditioner needs regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure that it is running properly and efficiently. Rite Rate offers a selection of discounts and deals online for maintenance, repair, and installation, but you can keep the costs down by keeping your air conditioner clean on a regular basis. Keeping it clean will reduce the chances of something bad happening that could’ve been easily avoided. Here are some tips on how to keep your air conditioning unit clean and well maintained:

  1. Know what you’re cleaning. It may sound simple, but each air conditioning unit has its own components and intricacies when it comes to upkeep. Depending on the type of air conditioner you have, you could be looking at long-term cleaning for a larger unit, or a simple once a week check to ensure that everything is clear and clean. The manual for your air conditioning unit should have some basic upkeep and cleaning suggestions, so check there first. If you do not have, or cannot find, your manual, a quick check online can give you tips on how to clean it. Remember, each brand and type of AC is different! Make sure you are using the instructions that come for your specific brand.
  2. Make room for your AC. It may sound like common sense, but anything in front of your air conditioner can cause problems with its performance. Make sure that the area around your AC is clear and clean, with no possibilities of something falling on, or into, your unit. Make sure that any vents are clear and there is plenty of space for your unit to operate. Outside, make sure there is at least a two-foot radius around your unit to make sure that nothing can get caught in the vents. Much like using a vacuum cleaner with a piece of paper blocking the end, things that sit around or in front of your AC can interrupt the ability of your air conditioner to do its job properly.
